In honor of Lance Armstrong and the start of this year's Tour de France, I decided to get some of my buddies together for a small bike ride through the hills of Morgan Hill. We're typically Mountain Bikers, so the challenge in this ride was speed and endurance, which I suddenly realized I had neither after having been so out of shape for the past couple of months.
We started at my house, in the Coyote Valley of Morgan Hill, and made our way to the hills above via Willow Springs Road. Once there, we took a left at Oak Glen road and circled the two major reservoirs in Morgan Hill. We took Llagas Road, to Watsonville Road, to Uvas Road, and back to Oak Glenn and Willow Springs Roads. We detoured for lunch, making it a 30.5 mile run.
Sadly, we averaged 13 mph, way lower than the average 33mph in the Tour de France. I have done better in the past, about 15mph, but I was riding my training bike today. It's a heavier bike and I was trying out a new rear cogset. Maybe it was a bad idea because, even though it looked really nice, it had a much smaller gear range. I did hit 35.5mph. =)
