I'm on travel again this week and this time I am writing from southern Japan, or at least towards the southern tip of the Japanese mainland, anyway. I got to fly through the new Nagoya International airport, which only opened earlier this year.
I flew from San Francisco to the new airport in Nogoya, and since this was the first entry into the country, I had to get out and pass through the Japanese customs. It was easy, but time consuming. Plus I had to make my way to the domestic terminal to check in for my next flight to Fukuoka. The experience was not bad. Apparently, I now have gold status through my airline, which apparently I have had for a while, and apparently didn't realize all the benefits.
I got to check in using the first class line, which was extremely short, and I was sitting in the first class lounge in the airport within ten minutes. But all the traveling was about to crash down on me. The flight from SFO to Nagoya was 11 hours and the flight from Nagoya to Fukuoka was another hour. I only slept partially through out the flights and did not sleep well the night before, either.
It seemed like I was only half way to my destination, when I started to feel real tired. I still had to take a 15 minute subway ride to the Hakata Shinkansen Station, for an one hour bullet train ride to my final destination, Tokuyama. I almost missed my stop! I fell asleep part way there, only haphazardly hearing "Tokuyama" through my groggy state. I rushed off the train, and made my way into the hotel around 10PM. crazy!
