This weekend, I went biking on an easier trail, the Los Gatos Creek Trail, to introduce my friend Jen to bicycling. I lent her my Specialized bike, and commited the greatest blasphemy to my bike I can imagine. I replaced the competition seat with a thick, cushy seat. It's surprisingly comfortable, but I did notice I am not as maneuverable in riding positions. Anyway, it was very comfortable for jen, so that was most important....
We started at Campbell Park, in Campbell, and biked along the path into Vasona Park, and then onto Los Gatos. Typically, that's where we break for lunch because the trail access to the reservoir is usually closed. But on this day, to my surprise, it was open. Most of the Los Gatos Creek trail is paved, but beyond this point it is mostly gravel, but still a very clean smooth trail.
We circled around and went into Downtown Los Gatos for a nice afternoon lunch at a breakfast omlette place. And what did I have? Blueberry pancakes and sausage. MMMMMMmmmm! This is what enjoying life should be all about.
In all we biked about twenty miles, so the sausages were well worth it. Not bad for an afternoon out.
Coming this Saturday, another one of my friends will be turning another year older and the only thing for me to say is, "Warren, you're at least older than I am."
Ah, I know that was mean, but Warren and I have had that kind of friendship for years. Cursing and expletive laden friendship.
So, Diana, Josh, and I decided to treat Warren out to dinner for his Birthday to E&O Trading Company in downtown San Jose. E&O has been one of my favorite places to go for dinner lately. I've always liked the ambiance, and the food is always exquisite and tasty. The menu changes often, but the Ginger Sesame Steak Satay is absolutely delicious.
Warren has always been a steak person, so this, and all the other meats, were absolutely for him. Happy Birthday Warren!
This past weekend, I played softball on a team with my friend Karin from college in the AACO (Asian Americans for Community Outreach) Annual Sports Day for Charity Softball Tournament. So TIRING! I do have to make a disclaimer, I have not played softball since College, compounded with the fact that I am so out of shape, my performance was only so-so.... My on base percentage was pretty good, but somewhere along the line, I had to stop and think how much better shape was I, back in high school?
I mean, I remember hitting towering fly balls to right field in those days, running the mile in 6 minutes, and just all around fitness. I know high school was pretty long ago, I had to wonder where did that life go?
Anyway, while comtemplating that, we went 1-2 for the day. Not bad for a team that was put together in a week and games that started at 7AM! Afterwards, I promptly went and got a haircut.
On Wednesday, it was Diana's birthday, and a bunch of us took her out to dinner at Magiano's at Santana Row, San Jose last night. Unfortunately, I don't have a single good picture from the evening, other than lot's of blurred body parts and funny faces, none intentional. The one good shot (above) was of a band playing on the grass, while I was outside waiting for everyone. That's right, I was not late for a change.
Diana and I have been close friends for a very long time, and there really hasn't been a dull moment. Some may be worth mentioning one day, but for the most part, we get older and wiser. I think.
Maybe, wiser to just lie about your age..... Happy Birthday, Diana!
In honor of Lance Armstrong and the start of this year's Tour de France, I decided to get some of my buddies together for a small bike ride through the hills of Morgan Hill. We're typically Mountain Bikers, so the challenge in this ride was speed and endurance, which I suddenly realized I had neither after having been so out of shape for the past couple of months.
We started at my house, in the Coyote Valley of Morgan Hill, and made our way to the hills above via Willow Springs Road. Once there, we took a left at Oak Glen road and circled the two major reservoirs in Morgan Hill. We took Llagas Road, to Watsonville Road, to Uvas Road, and back to Oak Glenn and Willow Springs Roads. We detoured for lunch, making it a 30.5 mile run.
Sadly, we averaged 13 mph, way lower than the average 33mph in the Tour de France. I have done better in the past, about 15mph, but I was riding my training bike today. It's a heavier bike and I was trying out a new rear cogset. Maybe it was a bad idea because, even though it looked really nice, it had a much smaller gear range. I did hit 35.5mph. =)
A friend of mine was visiting in town last week, and luckily I had the chance to hang out with her over parts of the weekend. Actually it went more like, phone call at 4 pm on friday, "Are you done yet, I'm hungry." Granted it was on a friday, but it was funny none the less since I was in the middle of a conference call at the time.
We did go out for dinner later that night, and saw the movie "Spiderman II". The theater was giving out foam Spiderman hands while we were waiting in line, and like little kids with nothing better to do, we started poking each other with the fingers until they let us into the movie. =P
No sooner than we were just talking about him, that baby Kwok was born, at 9:20AM, 8lbs. 1oz.
This weekend, our good friend George was visiting from Maryland, so we decided to get together at Albert's house. Was it another thinly-veiled attempt to visit Albert's dog, Chubby? Nah, Albert's wife is expecting their first baby soon, so we wanted to at least see the expectant parents-to-be, beforehand.
A day at the park spent playing volleyball and ultimate frisbee, which completely spent me, and of course BBQ'ing. Little did I know, I would be sore and tired in places I haven't felt in a very long time. -oooohh!
I "kind of" tackled Greg during our game of Ultimate frisbee. We never did figure out if it was legal or not. But his team was roughing up my players, so someone had to "regulate"!
John looked like he was playing "keep away" with some girls. It also looks like he wasn't doing so well, either.
